Mono
Lake Kayak Adventure
We look forward to paddling one of the oldest lakes in North America with
you! With the snow crested Sierras as a backdrop, this is an incredibly
scenic spot. We will spend two days in the Mono Lake Basin and paddle
to several different areas of this beautiful lake. We'll look for migrating
waterfowl, paddle to tufa towers and talk about the fantastic geology
of the Mono Basin. The weekend fee will cover kayak rental, instruction,
guides, Forest Service use fees and Sunday breakfast. Participants will
provide their own personal camping gear, transportation and lunches. The
first night we will eat dinner at a restaurant in Lee Vining and participants
will pay for their own meals. On the morning of day two, breakfast will
be provided and we will eat before leaving camp.
Sierra Nevada by Sea Kayak
Our destination is a secret spot. This 6 mile long protected reservoir
is on the west side of the Sierra. The back half of the lake is a beautiful
fjord, closed to motor boats and surrounded by the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness
Area. At 6500 feet in elevation, the shoreline is covered by thick forests
of red fir and ponderosa pine. Ringed by high peaks of exposed granite,
the lake is a wonderful alpine setting with abundant birdlife and great
fishing. We will carry our personal camping gear to an isolated location
at the back of the lake. Our weekend will include generally calm waters,
hearty food, beautiful vistas and great company. The weekend fee will
cover kayak rental and instruction, guides and two meals (dinner and breakfast).
